Concept, Direction, and Choreography
Beat Armonico
The immense musical production of the Baroque era is characterized by urgent and cadenced harmonic and temporal structures, still today offering extraordinary rhythmic and spatial suggestions to contemporary choreographers. *Beat Armonico* is an obstinate “cosmic beat” that recalls the vital human breath and the inexorable universal law of time. Passing through different states, the dancers' bodies narrate the vital impulse of the human being and its existential quest.
"Beat Armonico" is part of the diptych BAROCCO RAVE, a co-production project and, above all, a residency and artistic exchange between Italy and Canada, involving the ADARTE Company and the Wen Wei Dance Company directed by Chinese-Canadian choreographer Wen Wei Wang.
The project included a first residency in Canada (May 8–19, 2023 at Dance House, Vancouver), during which choreographer Francesca Lettieri worked with four Canadian dancers from Wen Wei Dance Company, and a second residency in Italy at the Teatro Politeama in Poggibonsi (June 18–25, 2023), where the Canadian dancers, Francesca Lettieri, and Wen Wei Wang worked together on the final phase of BAROCCO RAVE (which includes Francesca Lettieri’s creation as well as Rebuild Us, a piece choreographed by Wen Wei Wang).
The project premiered in Italy on June 25, 2023, at the Ballo Pubblico Festival and was later presented in Canada in July 2023 at the Dancing on the Edge Festival (DOTE) in Vancouver and the Brian Webb Dance Company Festival in Edmonton.
